Terms of Service
Last Updated: February 18, 2026
Summary: getlawyer is a technology platform connecting clients with legal professionals. We are not a law firm and do not provide legal advice.
1. Nature of Service
getlawyer is a technology platform, not a law firm. We provide a marketplace for clients searching for legal services and lawyers offering such services. We do not provide legal advice, and no attorney-client relationship is formed between getlawyer and its users. Any such relationship is formed exclusively between the client and the chosen lawyer.
2. AI Transparency Policy
Critical Disclosure Requirement
Lawyers MUST disclose the use of AI tools in drafting, research, or any work product delivered through the platform. Failure to tag a case or document as "AI-Assisted" constitutes a breach of these terms. This policy is in place to mitigate malpractice exposure and ensure full transparency for clients.
3. Code of Conduct for Lawyers
All legal professionals on the platform must strictly adhere to the Rules of Professional Conduct (RPC) as defined by the Nigerian Bar Association or relevant international bodies.
- Disbarment: Any disbarment or suspension by the Bar results in an immediate and permanent platform ban.
- Professionalism: Lawyers must respond to inquiries within reasonable timeframes and maintain professional standards in all communications.
- Confidentiality: Lawyers must preserve attorney-client privilege as required by law.
4. Payment & Escrow Fees
All payments made by clients for services on the platform are held in a secure escrow wallet. Funds are only released to the lawyer upon completion of the agreed-upon milestones or services.
- Platform Fees: getlawyer deducts a platform fee of 3% to 10% from the released funds, depending on the lawyer's membership tier.
- Disbursements: Payments for filing fees or other external costs are handled separately through the platform's invoicing system.
5. Dispute Resolution
In the event of a disagreement regarding services or billing, users must first attempt informal mediation through the Case Chat. If unresolved, the dispute may be escalated to the getlawyer Resolution Center. For detailed steps, see our Dispute Resolution Guide.
6. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, getlawyer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly.
